At the Breakfast Table - 3.

Hey Ashu! How would you like it if I become your class mom this year?

What does a class mom do?

You remember last year when A's mom was the class mom? She came with you on trips, came and helped out whenever the teacher asked? That way.

Oh cool! You can be a class mom! Yay!

But Im just thinking about it, Ashu. I don't know if I will be able to do it with Antu. So lets see. I just wanted to ask you if its ok with you.

Ok.

(a short pause)

Amma?

Yes.

You be a class mom if you WANT to. I don't NEED you to be a class mom, ok? Only if you WANT to.

Needless to say, I had fainted at this point and Hd had to come and sprinkle water in my face to wake me up. Need and Want, indeed! I don't think I knew the difference until I got married and WANTED a red volkswagen beetle very badly and Hd lectured me about wants and needs! :)

At least Ashu gave you an option of "need vs want". When it comes to Antu, am not sure if you'll be left with such a fig leaf !

I remember reading exactly the same in one of bbthots post...about Kavya talking about Needs Vs Wants..Kids these days have an exceptionally clear thought process ! I'm waiting for the day my 2 yr old will grow up and impress me like Kavya n Ashu did -
Great Going Ashu !

Ashu probably heard HD's lecture in the womb? She always seemed like the adjusting, understanding, organized, big sis kind. But atleast Antu takes after you - the little sis kind (please note the absence of adjectives).

If you really really want the red beetle - get it. You dint want a lambhorghini!

It's a first child-second child difference. Ours is not to know the difference between needs and wants. ;)
