Dearest Antu,

Your 18th Birthday is here. You have two more years of high school, so small mercies. But can't deny that my heart breaks clean into two pieces now that I have two adult children. Nothing I say is enough anymore. What do I even know? But I know you and here are a few things for you to remember.

Love your life.
Be strong.
Be patient.
Make friends.
Be grateful.
Pass it forward.

Experience new things.
Trust your instincts.
Make decisions.
Hold on.
Have faith.
Stand up for yourself.

Sing.
Dance.
Read.
Remember.
Run.
Own your life.

I am proud to be the mom of you two young women and would always be. Don't be afraid to show the world who you are. Happy Birthday, Chellamma!

"By the time it came to the edge of the Forest the stream had grown up, so that it was almost a river, and, being grown-up, it did not run and jump and sparkle along as it used to do when it was younger, but moved more slowly. For it knew now where it was going, and it said to itself - There is no hurry. We shall get there some day."

Love,
அம்மா.
