For more than a year now, we have been spelling the word M-I-L-K rather than saying it in front of Ashu. If we were in a car and were about to reach home in 15 mins, we would nt be stupid enough to say "Got to give MILK to Ashu as soon as we reach home". Because our darling little girl will only hear MILK and start asking for milk NOW! Or if we were in a park and I say by mistake something like "lets go home, she must be hungry, I forgot to bring milk for her", it would be war! I want Milk, Paal Venum, ... She used to cry when she was much younger and then later, started nagging and now she screams! First it was Paal(Milk in Tamil) and then we started using the word, milk. Then she understood the English word too and started asking for PILK. So we switched to spelling. It worked. Until now. Yesterday, madam got up from sleep and declared "I want Em-Eye-El-Kay". I mean, imagine it coming out of the mouth of a 2 year old. Hd and I were like WHAT! Then today, she said it again to prove that she actually knows and that one time was nt by mistake.
Bee-Are-A-Tea this one!

Cho chweet! One smart cookie...
ROFL! one of your best posts!! and sorry, but A-Ess-ech-you is one step ahead of you!
Your M-I-L-K is our D-u-d-d-h-u. For someone (Read A-n-a-n-y-a) who laps up almost a litre of it in a 12 hour period, the spelling should be easy to crack, I am thinking.
Our cup, indeed, overfloweth!
LOL! That's a smart one, you've got!
We use d-u-d-u too and so far Moppet hasn't cracked it yet. But I'm thinking we should move to a code like 'her beverage of choice' just to be sure....
LOL!! That is why you need to change your password on a regular basis. Don't underestimate children :)
A prodigy :)
hahaha you're going to be so thankful for this trait of hers when she starts learning spelling. Very cute, and very smart!
Whoa, that's a smart one you got there! :D
I remember my cousin had to change the way she scolded her son all the time, because sooner rather than later the little one would pick it up and scold her back in the same tone! Another Bee-Aar-Ay-Tee that one, I assure you!
Smartie-pants ! Well.. but atleast she does like her milk. Poppin has recently become a no milk person, so I add Bournvita to it and pretend it's coffee.
Until my MIL or somebody else slips and says "Paal Kudi" and that's it, poppin refuses to bring the glass to her lips ! So we've started referring to milk as coffee in our house :)
Try that !
much more to come... Hubby and I used to do our sweet-nothings and angry-nothings in english till she was in her LKG. Now she speaks more fluent english than us and now we both are planning to learn Sanskrit or German so that we can continue our talks in her front :)
WOW. Smart girl. :-)
LOL - but an Es-Em-A-Are-Tee brat!
My BFF's kid did this too! They would spell out "MEDICINE", so she wouldn't cry. So they'd say "It's time for her M-E-D-I-C-I-N-E".
Till one day the smarty pants turned around and said, "No mommy - I don't want M-E-D-I-C-I-N-E!!"
She was 2 and a half!
Hmmm this proves that lil A-S-H-U is good at observing and remembering things...Boo, better be careful...
Well, kids are smart! I had to watch what I was speaking when I realised that I was transfering some bad words to my kids.
Very sweet post :)
LOL! we tried the spellings till he began to figure it out.. and now we do what Asha suggested... rotate the spelling in all the different languages the OA and I speak... lets see how long that lasts!
ha ha - one smart kid this one.... we will soon be needing to spell P-O-O-L at our place ....a place sonny loves n the summers..
s-m-a-r-t-e-r than p-a-r-e-n-t-s :D
lol! very smart:-)
es-em-a-are-tea ...very very smart :)
