Is nt it Dhadha - Dhadhi and Naana- Naani in Hindi for Paternal and Maternal Grandparents? I am so happy that Thatha (grandpa) and Paati (grandma) denote both the set of grandparents in Tamil. Thank God for small blessings. :)
Illa...doing Phd now..mudikkaporaen ..in another 6 mnths or so.. So, i've told them i will get 'hooked' after submitting my thesis..adaan ipdi vittaanga..
Boo, in our caste we do differentiate maternal and paternal grandparents. Aachi thatha - maternal, paati paataiya - paternal. they cannot be interchanged like mama and chithappa cannot be interchanged. I always go uneasy when people refer my aachi as paatti or my paattaiya as thatha.
