New Car.

How did I forget to write about this? We have bought a CAR! An used car! Our new car! A silver color, compact Citroën. Our first car, actually! That's right, our first car. Well, its a long story but that's what the blog is for so here I go.

When Hd and I got married, we lived in Chennai for 6 months with my In laws. Their car was as good as ours, so there! Then we both moved to Bangalore and since I took my Kinetic Honda with me there, we managed with it. Then after a while, FILs car came to Bangalore with us and stayed. Soon we moved to the UK and the car went to back to FIL. The next time we moved to Bangalore again, we managed with the Kinetic Honda. My uncle who lives in Bangalore gave his scooter as well, so we had two 2 wheelers! Then the last time we moved back to Bangalore again from Swiss along with Ashu, my dad came to the rescue by giving his car as he was hardly using it in our hometown. So for a year, we had his car. Yes, Hd and I are both shameless that way! We have absolutely no qualms squandering stuff from both our parents! For that matter, I have nt bought a single thing for our kitchen in all these years. Every stainless utensil is either my mom's or mil's, the gas stove is mil's, the mixie is my mom's, the microwave is mil's, the rice cooker is mom's, ...

All the time we lived abroad whether it was in the UK or in Swiss, the public transport has been excellent and we never needed a car. But this time with Ashu, things were getting difficult and especially once the winter arrives, its very tough to get out of the house and walk to take a tram or a bus. So we thought it was a good idea to buy a car. We had finalised on one before I left for India but Hd brought the car home when I was in India. So the excitement set in only after I came here. Oh, life is so easy after a car! It would be great if I get a license and start driving too. But generally I am very scared to drive and have zero confidence. I hated driving in Bangalore. Hope I get over it soon.

Ashu has started enjoying the car rides and we have been taking her to theme parks, lakes and play areas every weekend and shes on cloud nine. She can spot our car in a parking lot too which is more than what I can say about Hd! ;)

By the way, Hd thinks I'm overacting when I got a "little" upset that his colleague got to ride in our car and sit in the front seat before I got a chance to. A female colleague, for your kind information! He says that it would nt have bothered me this much if it were a guy. Of course it would nt have! Jeez, whats with these men? Don't they ever get the point?

congrats!
Female colleague riding in front seat before you? And you only got a "little" upset?
w.r.t driving, I have been driving in US last 9 years. But it still gives me shudders to drive in Bangalore. Because I drive by the rules - is what hubby says :( Once, I stood at an intersection hoping someone will give way to take a turn. Only to get numerous honks and cuss.
c'mon girl go for it!

Boo congrats for the car! rbdans is right in a way, in India if we follow rules we are termed as MAD.

I am surprised you only got a little upset for not getting to ride the car first !!

You can't compare driving in B'lore to driving in Swiss. Go get a lic and life will be even more nicer!

I would have been "MIGHTY" upset about someone else getting a ride first before you did! :)

Like you said, men will be men and we women will be women! :D

Congratulations! You should get a license and drive - it's awesome. Moppet and I have only recently started doing drives by ourselves, just me and her - it's great fun.

Oh, and I've given you an award.Come and get it

CONGRATS Boo. Do you look at your car through your window before going to bed and the first thing in the morning?

I was upset when our first drive was to some idiotic shopping in Indian area with a friend (guy) in the front seat, though I was also there in the back seat. We had fights over it for few years.

That friend was the one who did the *engineering* checks to buy that used, but our new first car. Balan barely knew driving, and all I knew at that time was, "I know all about engines, I know how the clutch works and how the break works. I can even explain how the carburetor works ...." blah blah blah. :-)

No! These men never get the point ;)
And congrats on your car :)

I forgot to mention, I used to scare (I thought I was scaring, who knows they might have thought "bloody crazy weird woman") others proudly, by saying that I have driven tractor and bulldozer before.

don't worry about learning driving, unless you are going to live in Swiss or anywhere abroad for a significant time. It will make it even more difficult for you when you go back to India. If you learn driving in Swiss, you will be scared to even sit in a car whosoever is driving. Particularly if the driver is trained only in Indian conditions.

hey! congrats on your new car... I can understand how it feels. I have been to your blog sometime back and revisited today. I don't know if I had left a comment before. Your choice of movies are very very similar to mine..esp the tamil ones. Infact I love those tamil movies you have listed. Guess will visit your blog more often now :)

Congrats on your new set of wheels!!! And seriously Hd needs to make up to you for letting a lady co worker ride up in front before you.

Congrats Boo!! If I were you, I would be mad at HD for weeks..or I would make sure he feels guilty and would leverage that guilt :)

And get a license soon to enjoy the new car better. It is not bad at all in places where rules are followed to the T (though the speed limit might intimidate you at first).

Would love to see pics of Aashu!! It has been a long while.

Rbdans - I have nt driven much in Bangalore but driving there was easier for me than here as there are no rules! ;)

Timepass - My dad says "In India you have to drive assuming everyone else is careless" and abroad everyone assumes you are a good driver if you are on the road and hence my lack of confidence!

CA - Only a little upset since I was in India when he bought the car. Otherwise, you would have read a separate post on this issue alone! ;)

Utbt - Im already driving with Hd. But getting a license is tricky here and Im in jitters! Taking some lessons from next week anyway, lets see how the instructor accesses me!

Nm - I was mighty upset when Hd did nt get the point! ;)

Moppets Mom - I am already dreaming about the day Ashu and I are going to drive on our own. Ahhhh... I only hope I get the license. And thanks a tonne for the award. you made my day!

Latha - Not until now!;) First drive huh? Why did nt I think of that? We went to McDonalds, bah!

COS - Thanks. They dont, huh? Why am I not surprised!

Aargee - Welcome. Glad we you love these movies too. Its time I started a collection for Ashu!! :)

Dotmom - He sure has to! I do have my eyes on a new winter jacket!! ;)

Manchus - You are so right. The speed limit is helluva intimidating. Especially 100 kmph on a tunnel. *shivers*
Im also dying to post some photos. Will do real soon.

Kodis mom - Doubly yippee if I get my license too!

fuzzy - I think you just need to be confident first and I so lack that! Crossing my fingers. If I pass the test, mey be I ll become more confident!

mnamma - Same pinch. Front seat is my throne! ;)

Tharini - It was tough(!) but did "manage"! ;)

Orchid - Crossing my fingers! Wish me luck.

shubha - I have to take some lessons to understand the rules here. Driving in Zurich is complicated as theres bus route, tram route, speedlimits change every minute, tunnels, uphill, downhill, ... Add to that the Im always switching on the wiper intead of left indicator because of the left side driving... :(

hmm, ya with all its limitations/ struggles, difficulties, learn it BOO. it wud b nice. good luck

LOL Green is the colour of the day then!! Congrats BTW.

You know... it would have upset me too. Similar things have happened in our setup and I have thrown royal tantrums over them. I still don't see why not.

And our car is being paid for by me (i.e. MY car) and for some reason I hate the thought of V ferrying other ppl in it without me around. Unless I ask him to, of course.

Such a small person am I. *Sigh*
