As if I don't have enough pressure to potty train...

Lot of people seem to land in my blog while searching for "pampers imported diapers in india" in Google. The thing is for the past 3 months we are nt getting the imported Pampers diapers in Bangalore. Or in a few places in Chennai where I checked when I was there in November. Even Life Style in Bangalore stopped stocking. All the pharmacies which had loads of stock in October ran out in November. After visiting 10 shops and calling up lots of places, I gathered that theres some ban on imported Pampers and no one has stock. So I bought the locally made Huggies. It will be an understatement if I tell you that its bad. The quality is bad, the packing is bad, it does nt fit right, leaks all the time, bigger sizes are nt available and they are absolutely useless for overnight use. So I guarded the one pack of Pampers I had and used them only in the nights. Used Huggies or the locally made Pampers in the day. Then I was able to buy one more pack of Pampers 2 weeks back. Got hold of some Imported Huggies which are very good but I did nt get the correct size. Thankfully Ashu was ok with all these changes and did nt develop rashes like the last time she did when I used Huggies briefly.

Anyway, I think the reason for the unavailablity of Pampers is that they are promoting the locally made Pampers in a big way and since the price is almost the same, no sensible parent is going to buy the local pampers if the imported ones are available. And thats why the mysterious ban. My question to Pampers is "Then why the appalling quality?" Do we look stupid to you? Either sell the local Pampers dirt cheap and make the imported ones available too for people who can afford it. Or match the quality. Its time manufacturers understand that there is a new category of consumer mothers now who dont care about the money when it comes to providing good quality products for their children. Do you see me complaining about the non availablity of good quality panty liners in my blog? Or that I would really love to get some imported Always sanitary napkins? So for poop sake, please sell us the diapers we want.

o thanks for the heads up, Boo. we're planning to visit India next month - was thinking of buying diapers locally. Hmmmm means I will now have to cart diapers from here :(

Boo, You Go Girl! Write to Pampers and give them a piece of your mind...What are they thinking? Is desi kids' poop/pee different than 'pharin' ones?

[To S2S, Yes, I made the mistake of not taking diapers and I was appalled at how they looked like cheap seconds/rejects, but were priced just the same, in fact more expensive, without the coupons!]

hey, i couldn't agree more .. i was in madras the whole of nov last year visiting from the US where i live with my 1 year old ... ran out of diapers the last week of my stay ... tried the local huggies, then pampers, then huggies again ... it was frustrating as hell 'coz they all looked so uncomfortable after my son wore them that i felt awful :( ... i so empathise with what's happening to you .. hope you get the imported stuff real soon !

Why don't you go to Pampers website and post your concern? Not sure if it will help, but at least you can try. I will try and see if I can find any Pampers' executives' email over the net.. You could search too and send them your piece of mind..

Hubby came across 5 packs (20's) of the imported pampers at a pharmacy recently and picked them all up. We too have been facing this problem and have resorted to using huggies ultra, wipro babysoft and pampers indian. The first 2 are great but indian pampers are left holding the short stick. Pampers fresh and dry (maybe korean/indonesian, don't remember) are not good as well.Poopy business this!!!

ps.had to remove the previous comment-mixed up the comments.Sorry!

S2S - Can you carry for me too? ;)

K's Mom - You are right about the expensive part. Now local pampers has reduced the price a little so you can imagine about the quality!!

Shobha - Its the unfairness that gets my goat. If I had nt seen an imported diaper in my life, I would be content with this crap!

S - You think I should? I ll try that.

Art - The irony is that HD came from Swiss with an empty suitcase in Nov and since I did nt know about the ban then, he did nt get the diapers! :(

Hi SM! Its the same in Delhi as well, huh? I did nt know that. Puzzling! U r right about the Huggies Ultra. They are great. But I dont get the right size for Ashu here. And since I was thinking that I ll leave for Swiss soon, I was afraid to stock up! Some life, this!

ASk the journo for the info!!! There is some osort of buy out or merger happening on the Pampers front and that is why they arent available. I am sick of Huggies too and since I only use them in the night for the Brat have a touch time with them leaking out by early morning.... A few more weeks and I hope we get Pampers back in the market.

I went through the same.. huggies are not leak proof and they look very small..

First time I carried a suitcase full of dipers but second time with both kids, I decided to buy from there so took only 200 with me.. Just once I couldn't get pampers but thank God I had few pampers left & I used them for nights.. I don't know how people manage with cloth diapers.. I can't even deal with different brands..

Hi.... I got into your blog exactly the way you said most people do... And I echo your feelings totally... We sent a cargo of 2 Huggies diaper boxes and since it is getting over, I have been hyperventilating... There is no place that imports those US Huggies or Pampers diapers and my baby is allergic to plastic anywhere...
I wish I could shout out exactly what you said to all those concerned... Why the F cant they make better quality diapers here... Besides, so many of us are returnees, and there sure is a HUGE market....
Any way to get the diaper companies to know??? If someone sends some kind of petition, I will back them up!!

Me again... Since my last comment, I have been out and finally found some imported diapers... They sell Pampers and Huggies (imported from Dubai) at Spar supermarket (above Lifestyle on Inner Ring Rd). I also found a tiny little shop in Green Glen Layout on Outer Ring Road called Baby's Desire that sell a lot of imported stuff including imported nursing pads, baby food, toys and baby furniture.
Needless to say, I heaved a huge sigh of relief!!

You should try bumGenius diapers in India.  They are great cloth diapers. The best for my baby.  My baby is so comfortable in them and I feel good with my decision to use cloth because I know it's better for the environment.  Check out www.smartbaby.in to learn more.

As soon as the baby is born, the first step in giving daily care and protecting from infection is a diaper. Diapers are very important and protect the baby from infection apart from keeping them dry.
